USEA Biography

Becky - Courageous Comet

A native of Fort Leonardwood, Missouri, Becky has spent almost her entire life around horses. As a self-proclaimed Army brat, she grew up riding with the Fiddlers Green Pony Club in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, graduating as a B-Level Pony Clubber. She credits her fearless riding style to her days as a member of the Fort Leavenworth Hunt where she served as whipper-in for 11 years.

Throughout her more than 20 years training and competing horses, Becky has won numerous competitions, and area and national awards. None was more gratifying than when she and her equine partner, Highland Hogan, were chosen as the U.S. Eventing Team's alternates for the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia.

Becky has trained with some of the best coaches, working extensively with Capt. Mark Phillips, and David and Karen O'Connor. She was selected to participate in the United States Equestrian Team (USET) training sessions with Eventing Team coach Capt. Phillips in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2008.

Since she began teaching at age 16, she has served as coach and instructor for riders competing at all levels - from Advanced down to Beginner Novice. Now training out of Carriage House Farm in Hugo, Minnesota, she is proud of her students who hail from all walks of life, including professionals, young riders and amateurs. She has served as the USEA Area IV Young Rider Coach and is currently the instructor for the CSDEA Junior Developing Rider Program.

Becky particularly enjoys bringing young horses up through the levels. She has developed both of her current mounts herself, training the off-the-track Thoroughbreds Courageous Comet, Highland Hogan and Glorious Joy to the Advanced level. Other notable partners include Rainman, Nutzen and Van Gogh.
